Chronic Pain Assessment
Split into two separate appointments, allow 60 minutes for each one:
Part One: In-depth telephone consultation
This where together we review your pet’s history and discuss any questions that you may have. This usually takes over an hour so have somewhere comfy and quiet to sit!
Part Two: In-clinic assessment
Prior to this appointment, I will have read the medical history sent over by your primary care vet and studied any photos or video’s that I may have already requested. Again, we have at least an hour so there is plenty of time to examine your pet and begin tailoring a plan to help improve the quality of their life.
This plan can include guidance about environment, exercise, nutrition and lifestyle, onward referral to physiotherapy/hydrotherapy/behaviourist and adjustments to medications in addition to utilising the treatments at Metta.
At Metta Pet clinic we use a fear free approach which may include us sending out our scent for your pet to “meet” us before the appointment or setting up the consult room in such a way that there plenty of things for your pet to explore while we observe their movement. Unless the patient is tiny, we meet your pet on the floor/treatment mat rather than on a table to increase their feelings of safety. You are welcome to join your pet on the treatment mat or in the chairs provided- your comfort is important too!
